15 Most Used Android Apps - Technology

Facebook and Google score almost at the top of the most used Android Apps. Not surprising though, the Android Market app is the most used on the Android Smartphones. According to Nielsen Smartphone Analytics, September 2011, which rated the apps according to age groups (18-24, 25-34, and 35-44), 2nd and 3rd places went to Facebook and Google apps (Search and Gmail were highest) respectively. In an article posted by Lance Whitney, CNET, "To rank the popularity of Android apps, Nielsen looked at the percentage of people who used them over the past 30 days. The data was taken from meters on the Smartphones from thousands of consumers who have volunteered to be part of Nielsen's ongoing Smartphone Analytics research."

18-24 Year OldsThe study showed the following apps rated highest for the 18-24 year old bracket: Facebook, Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Pandora Radio, Advanced Task Killer, Words with Friends, Angry Birds, QuickOffice, The Weather Channel, Adobe Reader, Amazon AppStore, and Yahoo Mail.

25-34 Year OldsAdding a few years to the group, the results for top apps were: Facebook, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Search, YouTube, Angry Birds, Pandora Radio, Advanced Task Killer, Words with Friends, Amazon AppStore, Adobe Reader, The Weather Channel and Yahoo Mail. Basically the same apps, just a little different focus.

35-44 Year OldsThe same apps seem to be popular with this crowd, but the focus is again a bit different. After the Android Market App, the top apps for the 35-44 year olds were: Facebook, Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps, YouTube, Angry Birds, QuickOffice, Advanced Task Killer, Amazon AppStore, Words with Friends, Yahoo Mail, Pandora Radio, Adobe Reader and The Weather Channel.

It is no surprise that Google apps were popular on the Android Smartphones. After all, the Android is Google based. Duh! Facebook comes pre-installed with many phones, so that is also a no-brainer. I think it's interesting that all the groups had the same top 15 apps. The order of popularity between the different groups just shows a slightly different focus of interests. The 2 games that made the popularity chart were Words with Friends and Angry Birds. That doesn't reflect well for the other bazillion games does it?

Running unnecessary apps will cause your battery power to drain quickly. There are a couple of options to counteract this problem. The easiest is to just buy an extended battery for your Smartphone. For example, you can get a great Samsung Droid Charge Extended Battery for under $30. I have the Motorola Droid X extended battery and love it! It really makes a huge difference!
