Fisher Capital Management Korea Latest News Updates: Android malware up 76 percent, nonexistent on iOS

By: Joe Aimonetti AUGUST 24, 2011 3:03 PM PDTA recent study has found that Apple's iOS is still untouched by malware, whereas users who choose Google's Android platform are 76 percent more likely to encounter funky software, making it the most susceptible mobile operating system in the world.McAfee's Threat Report for the second quarter of 2011 outlined the issues facing mobile OS developers. It seems as though Apple's strict stance on iOS apps and games has thus far thwarted any attempts at malware. The only attacks on iPhones were only able to harm jailbroken phones. (Remember the Rick Astley exploit?) And only a small number of those.Google, on the other hand, has a significantly less strict approach to getting apps and games on its Android platform. That has caused a significant number of malicious software titles to be downloaded via Google's own Android Marketplace as well as separately by users. With 44 cases of malware in the second quarter alone, Android is nearly f our times as targeted as the second-place platform, Java ME, with 14 cases.HP's WebOS also contained no known cases of malware, joining iOS as the only other unblemished mobile platform, though the reach of WebOS is significantly less than iOS.Does the threat of malware affect your decision on which mobile phone to purchase? If not, what does? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Market Overview December 2009: Fisher Capital Management

Market Overview December 2009: Fisher Capital Management - Stocks closed lower in October for the first time in seven months, as investors questioned whether the huge rally off the March lows had exceeded the economy's ability to generate growth in output and profits.

Indeed, equities capped off a volatile month (the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) experienced triple-digit moves in ten trading sessions!) with a volatile week, as the S&P 500 Index experienced its worst five-day span since early July.

For the month, the DJIA eked out a fractional gain, while all the other major equity market indices suffered losses. Small cap stocks, which had been among the performance leaders of the seven-month rally, experienced the worst hit, with the Russell 2000 Index falling by almost 7%. In another sign that the market may be growing skeptical of the "higher risk, higher reward" strategy, the NASDAQ Composite Index, dominated by technology holdings, declined 3.6% for the month.

LG Optimus 3D: A Next-Gen Android Phone - Technology - Communication

Electronics giant LG, which has recently struggled to find its place in the ever-changing smartphone market, is planning a comeback with the Optimus 3D. This new LG Optimus phone is the world's first glasses-free 3D Android phone, and will be the first glasses-free 3D phone to reach the Australian market.

While no glasses are required to experience the 3D effect, the screen does need to be held at a certain angle. Early reports from Mobile World Congress, an annual mobile industry gathering, suggest that the optimal view range is smaller than that of the 3DS, Nintendo's upcoming glasses-free 3D portable gaming system.

Still, the 3D effect is said to be impressive under the right conditions. It can also be toggled on and off at will.

The LG Optimus phone integrates stereoscopic 3D into popular Android games, videos, photos, and even the Android user interface. The phone comes preloaded with several 3D-enabled games by French developers Gameloft: Let's Golf 2, racing game Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, and a Halo-esque first-person shooter called N.O.V.A. It has built-in access to a special 3D Youtube gallery.

And the Optimus 3D isn't just for viewing 3D; dual rear-facing cameras allow the user to record 3D video, which can be uploaded to the aforementioned Youtube gallery.

In addition to its flashy innovations, the LG Optimus 3D provides the features expected from a high-end Android phone: a large (4.3-inch, to be exact) touchscreen, GPS, messaging, media players, and Flash-enabled web browsing.

You may be wondering about the kinds of mobile plans that will be available for the LG Optimus phone. While LG has not yet announced Optimus 3D carrier availability for Australia, the Australian launch is expected for June, so details on specific mobile plans shouldn't be too far away.

In other Android news, Google recently opened a web-based Android application market, available at market.android.com. Android users no longer have to view and download apps directly through their Android phones.

Now, just like Apple's iOS App Store, the applications directory of the Android Market can be viewed directly from your PC. Once an application has been purchased, you can wirelessly transfer it to Android phones. Russian woman boils, blends and chops Galaxy Nexus in bizarre photo shoot

Some things on the Internet simply cannot be logically explained. Like this photo shoot from a LiveJournal blog by Russian user strenger.

According to the Google Translate, which I often doubt the accuracy of, strenger was called to a friends one evening to document some sort of dinner preparation when things took a turn for the interesting. Apparently, the woman found torturing the Galaxy Nexus in the photo shoot is doing so because she had a fight with her significant other. And he’s the one who bought her the phone.

The pictures really speak for themselves. The Galaxy Nexus was fried, used as a cutting board, drenched in raw eggs, covered in ketchup, used as a sponge to do dishes, thrown in a blender and dumped into a pot of boiling hot water. After all that, the phone supposedly still works. Yeah, sure.

I’m not quite sure if this is some sort of odd marketing campaign, or just one man’s freakish fetish finally coming to fruition. It’s almost disturbing in a weird way. But I’m sure there’s some sort of message to get out of the whole thing. I’ll let you know when I figure it out.

Google confirms Android 4.0.4 update on Xoom, GSM Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus

Galaxy Nexus updates

Android 4.0.4 has started rolling out on Wifi-only Motorola Xoom tablets, as well as GSM Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus phones, Google has confirmed. The new version of Android, which has been described as an "incremental update" by Google engineer Jean-Baptiste Queru, is said to include "stability improvements, better camera performance, smoother screen rotation, improved phone number recognition and more."

News of 4.0.4 launching on the Xoom and Nexus S (as well as AOSP) has already broken, but this is the first we've heard about the new version of ICS on the GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus. For what it's worth, none of our Galaxy Nexuses have received the update just yet, but we're sure that'll change in the hours and days ahead.

No word on when this update will be arriving on the Nexus S 4G or Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus, but Android 4.0.5 has already been tipped for an early April launch on the Verizon Nexus.
